Will The New Broom Sweep Clean?

 

Sen. Deb Fischer (R-Neb.) will chair the Senate subcommittee on surface transportation and infrastructure during the 2017-2018 congressional session.

The announcement was made by Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.), chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, who added, “We’re ready to hit the ground running in the first 100 days of Congress, starting with Secretary Chao’s nomination.”
Fischer’s history with the trucking industry includes introducing a bill in 2015 aimed at the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and its regulations It was successfully included in the 2015 FAST Act, which requires the agency to better justify new regulations before enacting them.

“Some of the FMCSA’s actions over the past years challenge our shared goal of enhancing safety,” Fischer said in 2015, “Congress must reform the agency to ensure higher levels of trust, collaboration and ultimately more effective regulations to keep our nation’s roads safe.”
In a statement on her website, Fischer said she intends to continue to “[push] policies to keep goods moving safely and efficiently.”
