Truck Driver Crushed By His Own Load

A truck driver died earlier this week when he smashed on his brakes in order to make way for a passing fire truck.

On September 10th, 32-year-old truck driver, Glen Epstein hit the brakes with full force in order to prevent an accident with a fire truck. The sudden stop caused the steel girders he was hauling to penetrate his cab, fatally wounding the driver.

Gary Reagan, another truck driver, saw the incident and stopped immediately to help.  Epstein was pinned against the load, and barely conscious.

The incident occurred on Narcoossee Road in Osceola County, Florida. An investigation is currently underway to determine if the load was properly secured.

This is precisely why trucks pulling such loads should have head ache racks and note about five or six straps that had been holding the load. Not a particularly safe method of securement, obviously.
