A 22-year-old Steinbach man was not injured in a collision yesterday afternoon when his semi-trailer crashed into a GMC Sierra on Highway #1 near Oak Lake.
Virden RCMP are investigating the incident, reporting that the red Sierra entered the westbound lane of the #1 from PR 254, in front of the white Volvo semi-trailer. The driver of the rig was unable to avoid the impact and collided with the Sierra.
Both vehicles landed in the opposite ditches. The semi-trailer was transporting large beams of steel which became loose and spread onto the highway.
The Steinbach man escaped injury while the driver of the Sierra, a 41-year-old man from Sioux Valley Dakota Nation, was transported to hospital with minor injuries. His two passengers, a 19-year-old man and a 56-year-old man also from Sioux Valley Dakota Nation, were transported to hospital with injuries that were more serious, stated RCMP.
Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the collision. RCMP continue the investigation.
