Jim Higginbotham is a professional driver for Stone Trucking Company in Tulsa, Oklahoma and was just recently named a Highway Angel, by the Truckload Carriers Association (TCA). Higginbotham was recognized for his willingness to stop and help victims of a two-car accident that ejected a driver from one of the cars.
Higginbotham was leaving from Ramona, Oklahoma to Peirce, Colorado on US-75 when he first saw the accident. He noted that the road conditions were rainy and that there were reports of thunderstorms approaching.
Higginbotham didn’t get far from Ramona when he saw the accident. Two small cars seemed to have collided with one another. Higginbotham inferred that one car had t-boned the other. He noticed a man lying on the pavement and without hesitation, Higginbotham pulled up and stopped in front of the wreck to help.
Higginbotham ran to where the man was lying and started waiving off oncoming traffic to prevent anyone from further hurting the injured man. After getting a closer look, he deduced that the collision had such an impact that it ejected the man out of his car.
A few minutes later, an off duty volunteer firefighter came and started aiding the man lying on the pavement. At that point, Higginbotham hurried over to the other driver. He saw that the other driver was conscious but also dazed, confused and bleeding. Higginbotham waited with her until emergency vehicles arrived 20 minutes later.
For his willingness to help, TCA gave Higginbotham a certificate, patch, lapel pin and truck decals. Stone Trucking Company has also received a certificate acknowledging its driver as a Highway Angel
