The 36th annual Shell ROTELLA® SuperRigs® truck contest will roll into White’s Travel Center in Raphine, Va. June 14-16. This year’s theme is “Tribute to Toughness.”
Entry to the three-day event is free and designed to be fun for truckers and their families. White’s Travel Center is situated just off Interstates 81 and 64 in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley.
“Shell ROTELLA® SuperRigs® contestants and attendees will have the opportunity to experience some of the most spectacular looking working trucks on the road,” said Megan Pino, Global Brand Manager, Shell ROTELLA®. “The trucks are a testament to the drivers that put in the hard work to make them a source of pride for the trucking industry.”
The Shell ROTELLA® SuperRigs® competition is the premier truck beauty contest for actively working trucks. Hard working owner/operator truckers from across the United States and Canada compete annually for more than $25,000 in cash and prizes. Twelve drivers will be selected to have their trucks featured in the 2019 Shell Rotella® SuperRigs® calendar.
Highlights include the Starship Initiative Truck. Fresh from its cross-country drive, this is a hyper-fuel-efficient Class 8, next-generation concept truck designed with the goal of reducing the energy usage associated with the transportation of goods. Using technologies that are currently available today and furthering the conversations around the importance of reducing CO2 and the global energy challenge, the Starship Initiative is a demonstration of what’s possible in reducing energy demand in freight transportation.
There will also be a fireworks display on Thursday, June 14, featuring a live concert by Jayne Denham, and The SuperRigs® truck parade on Friday, June 15. Truckers will stage their rigs, turn on their lights and pump up the music; creating an epic street party for truckers and residents alike. In addition, there will be a live concert by trucker/musician Tony Justice.
White’s Travel Center offers a variety of on-site amenities including a chrome shop, complete pharmacy, clean showers, numerous restaurants and shopping, as well as a small movie theatre, laundry services, and a shuttle. A Blue Beacon Truck Wash and CAT scales are also available on-site. In conjunction with the St. Christopher Trucker Relief Fund, the Medicine Shoppe will conduct complimentary health checks throughout the three days of SuperRigs® while staff is in attendance.
Trucks entered in the Shell ROTELLA® SuperRigs® truck competition will be judged by industry professionals who work for major trucking publications or broadcast companies. Judges score the rigs on exterior appearance, design, detail/finish, originality and workmanship. In total, 24 working trucks receive awards for categories such as Best of Show, Tractor, Tractor/Trailer Combination and Classic.
Judging will take place between 7:30 a.m. EST and 6 p.m. EST on Thursday and Friday and between 7:30 a.m. EST and 10 a.m. EST on Saturday, June 16.
