Thursday, Feb 28, 2019, a meeting was held in Toronto to discuss Truck Driving becoming recognized as a skilled trade in an effort to actually improve safety. The meeting was among the Ministry of Transportation, The Ministry of Colleges and Universities, members of provincial parliament, and stake holders, including the Federation Canadien Transport.
Both ministries are certainly open to such a skilled trade recognition.
There are a number of changes about to take place this spring that will certainly change a lot within the college of trades programs. And from this perspective, the changes will be a great improvement with safety the main motivator.
The most encouraging words spoken were: listen, we don’t do the job, we must hear and understand the ramifications of our decisions on those who do the job.
