The Iowa Department of Transportation plans to close 11 of the state’s 38 rest stops along the highways, along with all 16 parking-only sites, saying it could save Iowa $25 million.
The state plans to close one rest stop with facilities in the next five years:
The Davenport eastbound rest stop on I-80 in Scott County.
Within the next 15 years it would also close the stops at:
Osceola northbound and southbound on I-35 in Clarke County
Story City northbound on I-35 in Story County
Loveland eastbound and westbound on I-680 in Pottawattamie County
Missouri Valley northbound and southbound on I-29 in Harrison County
Sergeant Bluff northbound and southbound on I-29 in Woodbury County.
And after 15 years the state would also close:
Story City southbound rest area on I-35.

Salix northbound on I-29 in Woodbury County.
Avoca eastbound on I-80 in Pottawattamie County.
Wilton eastbound on I-80 in Cedar County.

St Charles northbound on I-35 in Warren County.
St. Charles southbound on I-35 in Warren County.
Northwood northbound on I-35 in Worth County.
Story County Overlook southbound on I-35 in Story County.
Mondamin northbound on I-29 in Harrison County.
Mondamin southbound on I-29 in Harrison County.
Minden eastbound on I-29 in Pottawattamie County.
Minden westbound on I-29 in Pottawattamie County.
