A fuel tax increase went into effect in Arkansas yesterday, October 1, on both gasoline and diesel fuel.
The diesel fuel tax will increase 6 cents to 28.5 cents per gallon and the gasoline tax will also increase by 3 cents to 24.5 cents per gallon.
The increased fuel taxes are a part of a $95 million highway funding bill signed by Governor Asa Hutchinson in March 2019.
According to the Arkansas Department of Transportation, the money raised by the updated fuel tax is intended to go towards maintaining roads and bridges.
The bill also increased the registration fee for electric vehicles by $200.
