Effective Monday, Feb. 18, tolls for passenger vehicles are as low as $2.60, down from $4 U.S. and $4.60 Canadian.
The $2.60 rate is in both U.S. and Canadian dollars. The lowered rate will remain at $2.60 every day at every hour.
The lower rate only applies to passenger vehicle drivers who have enrolled in the Ambassador Bridge Premier Commuter Card program. Those who already have the card will get the $2.60 rate immediately. New members will have to put an initial $150 on the pre-pay card, which will be replenished once the balance hits $25.
Rates for commercial vehicles will remain at the same levels they have been at since 2015. Class A trucks (0-36,000 pounds) will be charged $3.50 per axle, Class B (36,001-54,000 pounds) at $4 per axle and Class C trucks (54,001-145,000 pounds) charged at $5.50 per axle. Wide loads from 9 feet to 13 feet and 6 inches will be charged an additional $60.
Additionally, a third lane for commuters will be open from Canada to the U.S. every weekday morning from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. From the U.S. to Canada, that third commuter lane will be available every weekday afternoon from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
