2018 Skills Ontario medal winners announced

The annual Skills Ontario showcase allows students in 68 trades to compete to be the best in the province in their field and included competitors in truck and coach programs from colleges across Ontario.  The competition was held at the Toronto Congress Centre.

The gold medal winner for 2018 is Bradley Lewis from Centennial College,  took the top honour in truck and coach after completing tasks at 10 different stations.

Second place went to Kyle Hurtubise, a recent graduate from Northern Ontario and the competitor from the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development (MAESD).

A MAESD competitor is chosen for each trade through a province-wide search and allows the ministry to show prospective and current students what kind of skill-level can be achieved by completing a recognized trade program.

Third place was awarded to Joe Edwards from Algonquin College. The bronze finish came after Edwards claimed to be experiencing some nerves in the beginning hours of the competition.

The winners were scored by college professors and professionals in the field at each of the stations. This year’s event saw seven students looking to nab a spot at the top. The contenders were chosen through regional events completed earlier in the year.
