Wisconsin Raises Speed Limit

On Wednesday, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker signed a bill into law that would increase the maximum speed limit on freeways and expressways from 65 to 70 miles per hour.

Assembly Bill 27 won’t take effect until specific highway segments are posted with the higher speed.

Now known as Act 19, the bill was authored by Wisconsin Rep. Paul Tittl, R-Manitowoc, and Sen. Devin LeMahieu, R-Oostburg. The bill was approved in both the Senate and the Assembly by voice vote.

The Department of Transportation will be responsible for determining which segments of Wisconsin state highways would be raised to 70 mph. Beginning in June, the state’s 700 miles of interstate highways go to the new limit.
