Union Pacific To Fine Truckers for Late Or Missed Deliveries

Beginning September, railroad company, Union Pacific will issue fines to truckers and trucking companies if they miss intermodal deliveries at six west coast terminals.

On July 2, Union Pacific announced that they will be implementing a new digital Intermodal Terminal Reservation System (ITR) at the west coast terminals.

The new ITR system, โ€œwill more closely tie customer reservations to train capacity and terminal fluidity.โ€ As a result, drivers who either fail to meet appointment times or donโ€™t cancel appointments ahead of time will be subject to the new fines.

Any reservation canceled less than 24 hours in advance of the gateโ€™s cutoff time will be assessed a $25 fee. A reservation requested, unutilized and not canceled will be assessed a $50 fee.

Furthermore, with the new system on-time drop-offs that donโ€™t depart at the scheduled time will receive a $100 credit.

The ITR system will go into effect on August 6 at the following terminals: East Los Angeles, LATC, City of Industry, Lathrop, Brooklyn, and TacSim. Union Pacific will start issuing fines on September 3.

Union Pacific plans to roll out the ITR system at other U.S. terminals in the future.
