Trucks Continue Moving The Majority Of NAFTA Freight

 

Trucks moved the majority of freight between the U.S. and fellow North American countries, Canada and Mexico, in April 2018.

Trucks moved $65.7 billion worth of freight, up 15.3 percent compared to April 2017. Rail moved $14.7 billion of freight, which is down 1.5 percent compared to April 2017.

Trucks moved $29.8 billion worth of freight between the U.S.-Canada, which amounts to 57.1 percent of the total moved between the two countries. They also moved $35.9 billion worth of freight between the U.S.-Mexico, which amounts to 71.1 percent of the total moved between the two countries.

Compared to 2017, U.S.-Canada up truck freight is up 10.0 percent and U.S.-Mexico freight is up 20.1 percent.

The top three states for truck freight moved through their border ports, which accounted for 74.7 percent of total truck freight, were Texas, Michigan, and New York.
