Wednesday morning residents in Eastern Ontario were awakened with the news that a multi-vehicle wreck had occurred early in the morning and the west bound highway was closed near Gananoque. At the time, police were estimating the road would be closed for a “couple more hours”.
As the day wore on, it became clear the wreck wasn’t going to be cleaned up quickly. It seems a tractor trailer had slammed into the back of an unoccupied safety truck parked at the side of the highway where a lane was closing for construction. Both trucks burst into flames and the ensuing fire burned through the pavement.
It now appears the road will be closed until sometime on Thursday. The pavement must be replaced before the road can re-open. Detours are in place but that isn’t easing the congestion caused by this road closure.
The name of the dead driver or his place of residence have yet to be released.
