Quebec-based companies announce creation of consortium to build upon current success

FPInnovations’ PIT Group, a not-for-profit engineering and research centre for the North American trucking industry, and its partners PRECICAD inc., a product development specialist, and KARGO, an electric vehicle manufacturer, today announced they have formed a consortium called movera to develop, custom-manufacture and market innovative, iconic electric compact passenger vehicles.

The group officially launched the alliance during EVS29, the world’s largest international electric vehicle conference, at the Palais des congrès de Montréal, where an example of one of the company’s current manufacturing products, a compact transit system vehicle for Calgary International Airport, is on display.

The initial compact transit system vehicle designed by the partners, to become part of the YYC LINK passenger shuttle system at Calgary International Airport (YYC), was introduced today to Minister Jacques Daoust, Quebec’s Minister of Transport, Sustainable Mobility and Transport Electrification, by Pierre Lapointe, President and CEO of FPInnovations, Pierre Dion, President of PRECICAD and KARGO, and Yves Provencher, Director of FPInnovations’ PIT Group.

The companies within the consortium were selected by the Calgary Airport Authority, which operates Calgary International Airport to design and manufacture the vehicles. Two other Quebec-based designers, Institut du véhicule innovant, and Deutschman Design, were also engaged in the project.

“This project is a good example of an ambitious partnership; it shows the capacity of our companies to successfully take up major challenges. The design and development of these electric shuttles deserve great admiration” said Jacques Daoust ,Quebec Minister of Transport, Sustainable Mobility and Transport Electrification. “The companies that took part in the project prove that, in the transportation electrification field, innovation and successful partnerships produce convincing results that are recognized beyond Québec’s borders. I hope this will be a source of inspiration for other projects as ambitious and innovative, and that it will generate more structuring initiatives that will contribute to Québec’s economic development and help it achieve its objectives in transportation electrification.”

Pierre Lapointe, President and CEO of FPInnovations, adds “Given FPInnovations’ long history of research and development in the forestry transport sector and our strong support of collaborative projects, I am pleased to announce the creation of Movera. This partnership is a shining example of the power of collaboration to create innovative projects that can lead to unique, environmentally-friendly products. I am excited by the potential that Movera offers in this regard.”

“We are excited to be partnering with FPInnovations’ PIT Group as we embark on an exciting new venture with Movera” commented Pierre Dion, President of PRECICAD and KARGO
“We at PRECICAD and KARGO are well positioned to leverage our knowledge of the electric vehicle industry in developing more innovative projects with the PIT Group under our alliance.”
