Four vehicles struck in shootings along Highway 5 in Anna, Texas

According to Anna Police Lt. Jeff Caponera, four passenger vehicles were shot on Monday 25 July along Highway 5 between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Monday. No injuries were reported in the incidents.

Caponera said they believe all of the shootings occurred along a mile stretch of Highway 5 between County Road 423 and the Collin County Outer Loop.

Police have increased patrols in the area and are actively looking for the shooter, who they believe was hiding in the trees and using a high-powered pellet gun.

“There is no suspect information at this time,” Caponera said. “We don’t have any witnesses who saw who was doing it. We’ve had officers literally shaking trees and bushes to see if we can drum up a suspect, but we haven’t had any luck yet.”

Some drivers have reported broken car windows and divots in the car doors. In one instance, Caponera said the bullet tore through a seat belt and became lodged in the seat. Despite the weapon likely being a pellet gun, Caponera said it remains a serious matter.

“It can do some damage,” he said. “It could cause some serious bodily injury or death if it hit in the right place.”

The incidents are especially concerning when you consider that Highway 5 is the main road through Anna, which is about 45 miles north of Dallas.

Caponera advises drivers traveling through the area to be cautious.

“What we’re telling everybody is to pay attention to your surroundings and to report anything out of the ordinary,” he said. “If they get hit, try to drive to a safe spot to contact us. Obviously, stay out of harm’s way. We don’t want anyone getting out of their vehicles and getting hit.”
