FMCSA Doctors Meet on Sleep Apnea Rules

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s Medical Review Board will hold a public meeting Monday and Tuesday, August 22-23. During the meeting, the board will make recommendations regarding the Advanced Notice of Proposed Rule-making for commercial drivers and rail operators with obstructive sleep apnea. The board will address comments on the ANPR received from medical professionals, safety advocates, labor groups and other interested parties. Additionally, the MRB will review its previously issued report on OSA from 2012 to determine whether it should be updated based on any changes to medical standards and practice or the comments received regarding the ANPR.

Both days are open to the public with comments allowed during the proceedings. The meetings will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. EDT at the FMCSA National Training Center, 1310 N. Courthouse Road, Arlington, Virginia.
