Drug Use Increasing in Warehousing/Transportation Sector

 According to data from drug testing firm, Quest Diagnostics, five sectors in the U.S. economy experienced double-digit-year-over-year increases in drug use between 2015 and 2017; warehousing/transportation being the top sector.

The analysis does not break down statistics for truckers specifically.

“Our analysis suggests that employers can’t assume that workforce drug use isn’t an issue in their industry,” Senior Director of Science and Technology for Quest Diagnostics Employer Solutions, Barry Sample, said. “In fact, drug test positivity in the majority of industry sectors analyzed is growing. The highest rates were in consumer-facing industries, including jobs in retail and health care and social assistance.”

Marijuana was the most common substance detected; consistent with annual drug testing reports in the U.S.
