CHP posts alternate routes for San Bernardino wildfire

A wildfire near San Bernardino, California, has forced tens of thousands of residents to evacuate and caused almost a dozen roadways to close, according to the National Wildfire Coordinating Group. California Highway Patrol is recommending travellers and truckers use alternate routes.

As of press time, approximately 30,000 acres had burned near Cajon Pass west of Interstate 15, causing more than 80,000 people to evacuate and threatening more than 34,000 homes. NWCG warns of an imminent threat to public safety, rail traffic and structure in the Cajon Pass, Lytle Creek, Wrightwood, Oak Hills and surrounding areas.

The following roadways have been closed:

SB 395 closed at Joshua
Highway 138 has been closed from Interstate 15 to Highway 2
State Route 2 closed from Los Angeles County Line to the 138
Hwy 138 closed between County Line to Highway173
Old Cajon Blvd north of Devore Cutoff
Lytle Creek at Glen Helen
Beekley Road from Phelan Road to the 138
Hwy 38 to Lone Pine Canyon has been closed
I-15 NB at I-215
I-15 SB at Ranchero

CHP recommended the following alternate routes:

From the Valley to the High Desert: Interstate 10E to Highway 62N to Highway 247N to Highway 18W
From High Desert to the Valley: Highway 18E to Highway 247S to Highway 62S to Interstate 10W
Oversized and over-length trucks are advised not to use SR18 or SR138. Agencies also advise OS/OW trucks to avoid other mountain roads as traffic is expected to increase with the current road closures.
