Average Diesel Prices Still Falling

The average price of a gallon of on-highway diesel had a decrease of 2.4 cents from last week to $2.211 per gallon for the week ending Monday, Jan. 4. This marks the lowest nationwide weekly average since May 4, 2009, when diesel prices were $2.185.

Diesel price averages went down in nine of 10 regions in the U.S., according to the Energy Information Administration. The largest average decrease was in the Rocky Mountain region, where prices at the pump dropped 3.6 cents per gallon. Prices were up 1.1 cents in the West Coast less California region, the only increase in the nation.

East Coast – $2.26, down 1.9 cents
New England – $2.344, down 2.1 cents
Central Atlantic – $2.391, down 2.1 cents
Lower Atlantic – $2.143, down 1.8 cents
Midwest – $2.13, down 3.3 cents
Gulf Coast – $2.114, down 2.6 cents
Rocky Mountain – $2.191, down 3.6 cents
West Coast – $2.464, down three-tenths of a cent
West Coast less California – $2.303, up 1.1 cents
California – $2.595, down 1.4 cents
