ATA hires new vice president of safety policy and connectivity

American Trucking Association President and CEO Chris Spear announced the hiring of Michael Cammisa as ATAโ€™s new vice president of safety policy and connectivity.

โ€œMike has decades of experience as a leader in highway and vehicle safety,โ€ Spear said. โ€œHis understanding of the emerging issues surrounding autonomous vehicles, the regulatory process and his connections within the safety community will be invaluable to ATA and its members and we are pleased to have him join our team.โ€

Prior to coming to ATA, Cammisa spent 16 years at the Association of Global Automakers, most recently as senior director of safety and connected vehicles, working with state and federal officials and automakers to shape the regulatory framework for connected and automated vehicles.

Cammisa has also worked as a researcher at the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and as an engineering and management consultant, according to ATA.

โ€œTrucks play a vital role in our economy and Iโ€™m looking forward to working with ATA members to improve on this industryโ€™s already strong safety record,โ€ Cammisa said. โ€œNew technologies are setting the groundwork for an exciting future for trucking and Iโ€™m pleased to be joining an organization that will play a large role in shaping that future.โ€
