U.S. cross-border truck traffic with Canada increased both ways

Canada-US Truck Traffic Rebounds

U.S. cross-border truck traffic with Canada increased both ways this summer, following two months of year-over-year declines in truck imports and exports.

According to data from the U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics, U.S. exports by truck in July rose 1.8 percent year-over-year to $15.8 billion, but fell 9.6 percent from June 2013. Exports had been valued at more than $17.5 billion for the previous four months. For January through July 2013, the value of exports by truck edged down 0.2 percent year-over-year.

Imports by truck from Canada climbed 4.4 percent year-over-year in July to $11.1 billion, 7.5 percent lower than the level seen in June. This was the third month of year-over-year increases in 2013. U.S. imports by truck from Canada inched up 0.1 percent year-over-year in the first seven months of 2013.
