Compliance With New HOS Required by July 1, Reminder

Carriers are reminded that compliance with FMCSA’s new hours of service rules will be required by July 1, 2013. The major changes that carriers will notice are specific requirements related to the 34 hour reset provisions and that drivers may drive only if 8 hours or less have passed since end of driver’s last off-duty period of at least 30 minutes.

The reset, (1) Must include two periods between 1 a.m.- 5 a.m. and (2) May only be used once per week.  FMCSA has indicated drivers who are using reset provisions while operating domestically in Canada and then operating into the United States will be required to be incompliance with the two specific components of the reset provision in order to have them count towards their duty cycles.
