CVSA Blitz coming soon, June 6-8, 2017

CVSA Blitz coming soon, June 6-8, 2017

The annual inspection blitz is coming up fast, set for June 6-8, and the focus this year will be on cargo enforcement.

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s International Roadcheck is in its 30th year in 2017. It is the largest targeted enforcement program on commercial motor vehicles in the world with nearly 15 trucks or buses inspected, on average, every minute across North America during a 72-hour period.

International Roadcheck is an annual three-day event when CVSA-certified inspectors conduct compliance, enforcement and educational initiatives targeted at various elements of motor carrier, vehicle and driver safety.

Each year inspectors target one area of the regulations for inspections. This year’s focus is cargo securement.

So now is a good time to brush up on the regs and to make sure you haven’t developed some bad habits that might get you dinged during the blitz.

Instructional Technologies Inc., a provider of a variety of training programs, is offering a free cargo securement training focused on open deck transportation in advance of Roadcheck.

“Offering free cargo securement training to prepare carriers for Roadcheck is our way of helping the industry,” said Dr. Jim Voorhees, president and CEO at ITI. “ITI’s cargo securement training will help reduce the number of violations during this year’s Roadcheck and improve safety.”

Beginning May 25 until June 15 ITI will offer “Flatbed Safety” free of charge. The course focuses on securement rules for flatbed cargo as well as safe operating instructions for securing cargo. Topics include working load limits, anchoring straps, proper use of tie-down bars, PPE for flatbed operations, working at heights, and interacting with forklifts or cranes.
