Federal Highway Administrator Gregory Nadeau advised transportation officials in the Midwest to start preparing now for a major increase in freight over the next 30 years.
Nadeau spoke at a roundtable in Lincoln, Nebraska, last week, where he emphasized the importance of proper funding to grow and maintain the infrastructure necessary to accommodate growth in freight across all modes, including a 45 percent increase in road traffic by 2045.
On a federal level, the United States Department of Transportation is preparing to issue the final version of its National Freight Strategic Plan.
