The total cost of ground transportation for Canadian shippers rose 1% month-over-month in January, according to the latest Canadian General Freight Index (CGFI).
The base rate, excluding accessorial charges assessed by carriers, was up 1.1% compared to December.
Fuel surcharges decreased to 12.09% of the base rate, on average, versus 13.03% in December.
โOverall, total freight costs increased the first time since August of 2015,โ said Doug Payne, president and COO, Nulogx. โThe increase was driven by domestic truckload. Year-over-year, domestic LTL and truckload remain in negative territory, while cross-border truckload and LTL are positive.โ
