WIT Auctions Off First Pitch

Two years ago, Virginia Sturtevant was given a once in a lifetime opportunity. As an owner-operator leased to FedEx Custom Critical, she was chosen to deliver the ceremonial first pitch at the Cleveland Indians game and represent her company at the “Women in Transportation” event hosted by the Women In Trucking Association. Her company was the highest bidder of the Women In Trucking Foundation First Pitch fundraiser.

Now you have the same opportunity to honour a deserving employee or bid on the ceremonial pitch for yourself – but only three more days to do it. The 2016 First Pitch online auction ends at 11:45 p.m. central time July 15, 2016. Auction bids can be entered online here.

The highest bidder in the auction will throw the ceremonial first pitch at the August 21 game against the Toronto Blue Jays in Cleveland, Ohio, and also receives four game day tickets. The 1:10 p.m. game is also Kids Fun Days.

Proceeds from the auction go toward funding scholarships for students entering the transportation industry.

“Nine scholarships have already been awarded this year, and we are currently taking applications for our July scholarship selection,” said Debora Babin Katz, chair of the Women In Trucking Foundation. The ceremonial first pitch auction is in conjunction with the fourth annual “Women In Transportation” day. “The event brings attention to the many women who enjoy great careers in a male dominated environment,” said WIT President and CEO Ellen Voie.

Sponsors of the event include Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems, TravelCenters of America/Petro Stopping Centers, and T&K Logistics.
