Demand for freight transportation has weakened over the last year, and combined with rebounding fuel prices, the conditions are leading to more business closures for trucking carriers, according to a report from Avondale Partners.
During the second quarter of 2016, 120 carriers went out of business with an average of 17 tractor-trailers per carrier. During the same quarter in 2015, 70 carriers with average fleets of 14 tractor-trailers closed their doors.
