Cargo Theft, Fictious Pick-up, FTL Beef, Guelph Ontario

15 Pallets, 624 Boxes, 44,156.58 lbs, Value: $81,552.42

On May 28, 2019,  load of fresh meat was picked up by someone posing as the assigned carrier in Guelph ON for delivery in Montreal, QC.  The shipment was never delivered to the consignee.

The load was posted on the LoadLink load board on May 27, 2019 for pick up on May 28, 2019.  A “carrier” called in about the load under the alias of “Le Grand Express” which was a known carrier.

Upon receiving carrier’s authorities and insurances / carrier was set up as a vendor.  The load tender was sent to the “carrier’s” e-mail address as per their company package. The e-mail in the documents stated the company e-mail address as legrandexpressinc@gmail.com

This, as well as telephone communication were the two methods of communication with the “carrier.”   The Load tender was sent to the carrier as of 10:03 AM on May 27, and the “carrier” confirmed receiving the tender as of 10:07 AM.

This was then treated as one of many loads of the day, and the standard procedures were applied / this was to be tracked and traced by the broker.   After multiple e-mail correspondence, and the “carrier” making up excuses for late delivery / the load was claimed to be delivered on May.30, 2019.  On June 3, 2019, customer advised they could not locate the meat in their warehouse and they could not find any paperwork or record of a delivery in Montreal.  Multiple e-mails were sent and calls made to  “carrier’s” numbers / no response was received.  Upon doing research / it was determined Le Grand Express had their identity stolen and altered documents / fraudulent information had been submitted to the broker by perpetrators for carrier appointment.
