Poll: NatGas Most Promising ‘Alt Fuel’

In response to a report that stated natural gas trucks and bus sales will grow steadily over the remainder of the decade, with more than 930,000 sold worldwide, the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) surveyed online readers on their future outlook for alternative fuels.

Asked “in the year 2020, which ‘alternative fuel’ will be most prevalent in medium- and heavy-duty fleet vehicles?” 35 per cent of respondents (from 44 countries) answered natural gas (CNG/LNG).

Biodiesel (24%) and electricity (21%) were second and third. Hydrogen at 11 per cent and ethanol at 7 percent also received some support, while only 2 per cent of respondents believe that propane (LPG/autogas) will be most prevalent in 2020.
