Surface transportation between the United States and Canada reached $47.5 billion in August, a 19.1 percent increase over the same month in 2010.
Overall, total surface trade between all three NAFTA nations was 18.3 percent higher in totaling $80.4 billion, according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics.
This was only the second time on record that U.S.-NAFTA trade by land modes exceeded $80 billion in one month. The first was in March 2011.
