MTO releases draft training standard

The Ontario Ministry of Transportation released a draft training standard for Class A Mandatory Entry-Level Training (MELT). A formal announcement regarding the introduction of MELT for Class A drivers in Ontario is expected this spring or early summer.

The draft training standard is available for public comment by May 13 and the OTA says its members are encouraged to review the document and submit comments to the association.

In a release, the OTA said, it is expected that in July 2016 the MELT standard and supportive regulations will be put in place, with a one-year transition period so carriers and driving schools can re-work their programs and/or entry-level training programs for the new standard.
