Make Safety A Critical Part of Corporate Culture

When Safety isn’t part of the corporate culture, in fact when safety is shelved, it’s good to know someone is taking it seriously even if it’s the courts.

Ordering drivers not to report defects on their Daily Vehicle Inspection Report isn’t good company policy.

According to the office of U.S. Attorney, Aaron Weisman, Leslie Cucino (54), and Robert Cucino, Jr. (49), owned CDE Corporation and Winsor Hill Hauling and Recycling Corporation before both companies closed. They both admitted in court to directing truckers not to report safety defects on Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports as federally mandated reports that police or inspectors can demand to view.

State police in Rhode Island and Massachusetts pulled over the trucks and noted defects, the drivers’ reports had not been annotated.

Both Leslie and Robert Cucino plead guilty to charges of failure to comply with USDOT regulation and the judge sentenced them to 12 months probation and a $1,250 fine each.
