Fire destroys much of 730 Truck Stop
The popular 730 Truck Stop burned down over the weekend. The fire broke out around 11:45 p.m. Saturday night and firefighting efforts continued into Sunday morning.
The fire completely destroyed the Subway restaurant, but The 730 Permit Services received only smoke and water damages.
The Flying J fuelling station was not damaged.
At least three volunteer fire departments were still on the scene at what’s left of the 730 Truck Stop.
Edwardsburgh Cardinal firefighters were dispatched to the location (Flying J) on County Road 22 at Highway 401 late Saturday night. Mutual aid calls were put out to Prescott and Augusta. It was unclear if any other fire departments were called to the scene.
Flames were visible in the restaurant area just after midnight. Smoke could be seen coming out of other portions of the building. An ambulance was on the scene early Sunday morning and left with its lights flashing.
Grenville County OPP confirmed on Monday morning that a 41-year-old Edwardsburgh Cardinal woman was injured. An OPP spokesperson described the injuries as “minor.” No other injuries were reported.
In a page just before 5:40 a.m., Prescott firefighters were advised that a relief crew was needed for the Cardinal fire. Edwardsburgh Cardinal firefighters were paged at about 7:38 a.m. and advised that additional manpower was needed. Water was still being delivered to the site.
As of about 8:15 a.m., the Prescott aerial truck was spraying the debris. Most of the building was gone. The end of the office area was still standing. A back hoe was also at the site.
Several OPP units were at the scene as well as a Leeds Grenville Paramedic Service supervisor. There was also an Office of the Fire Marshal van parked nearby.
The OPP identification unit was called to the scene. The Grenville OPP crime unit has been assigned the investigation and is working closely with the fire marshal’s office, according to the police spokesperson.
The building housed several businesses and offices.
