Fiat finalized its purchase of Chrysler in late January 2014. There were legal differences between UAW VEBA Trust and Fiat during the early phases of acquisition, but the two worked together to finalize the deal. Chrysler was previously taken over by Daimler-Benz in 1998 but it was an ill-fated partnership that led to the company being sold off in 2007.
ਇਸ ਸਾਲ ਦੇ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੋਣ ਸਾਰ ਭਾਵ ਜਨਵਰੀ ਦੇ ਅਖੀਰ ‘ਚ ਫਿਏਟ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਕ੍ਰਾਈਸਲਰ ਦੀ ਖ੍ਰੀਦ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਮੁਕਾਅ ਲਿਆ। ਇਸ ਸੌਦੇ ‘ਚ ਯੂ ਏ ਡਬਲਿਊ ਅਤੇ ਵੇਬਾ ਟਰੱਸਟ ਅਤੇ ਫਿਏਟ ਵਿਚਕਾਰ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ‘ਚ ਕਾਨੂੰਨੀ ਅੜਿੱਕੇ ਬਣੇ ਰਹੇ ਪਰ ਬਾਅਦ ‘ਚ ਦੋਵਾਂ ਨੇ ਸੌਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਵਾਨਗੀ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤੀ। ਕ੍ਰਾਈਸਲਰ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਤਾਂ 1998 ‘ਚ ਡੈਮਲਰ- ਬੈਨਜ਼ ਨੇ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਲਈ ਸੀ। ਪਰ ਇਹ ਭਾਈਵਾਲੀ ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾ ਨਿਭੀ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਬਾਅਦ ‘ਚ 2007 ‘ਚ ਵੇਚ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ।
