Next Monday, Dec. 4, will see truckers and stakeholders around the country unified in protesting electronic logging devices in an “ELD Media Blitz.”
Rallies have been planned in more than 40 states. All start at 9 a.m. local time. The goal is to educate the general public and local media on security, economic and safety issues related to trucking and ELD’s.
Many of the events will be a “truck show” family-style event in an effort to get people to come out with their kids, learn about the role truckers play in their lives, and hear more about how drivers’ feel the ELD mandate will negatively affect them. Drivers will give people rides around the parking lot in their trucks and talk to them about their opposition to the ELD mandate.
American Trucking Federation plans to stage their rally across the street from Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan’s office for the morning. Rep. Jordan has not expressed support for H.R. 3282, a bill to delay the ELD mandate. To attract the media and public, Santa Claus will make an appearance, posing for photos with children next to trucks. According to their Facebook page, ATF was created “for the support and coordination of efforts by truck drivers to help put a stop to the FMCSA, DOT, and ATA, and unjust mandates and laws put in place by Congress. We are against government overreach and over-regulation.”
