Drivers traveling on Interstate 895 in Maryland near the Patapsco River Flats in Baltimore are advised to reroute. A $48.5 million bridge replacement has shut down the right lane on northbound I-895, with the southbound closure coming in August.
The right lane on northbound I-895 between Exit 4 (MD 295) and Exit 6 (Interstate 97 and MD 2 spur road) is currently shut down around the clock for the first stage of the project, according to the Maryland Transportation Authority. In early August, the right lane on the southbound section will be shut down, with the northbound right lane continuing to be closed, MDTA spokesperson John Sales confirmed.
Once southbound work commences, drivers will need to keep right to use Exit 6 and stay left to remain on I-895. After right lanes are completed sometime this fall, construction will begin on the left lane on both sections of the interstate. Only one lane going either direction will begin on either the northbound or southbound section as the other section is being worked in the later stages of the project.
MDTA advises travelers to use Interstate 95/Fort McHenry Tunnel as an alternate route. The project is expected to be completed in summer 2019.
